Comment: First off, unfortunately I photographed this drawing when it was under glass; I was in a hurry to frame it for a show and didn't remember to photograph it first. So, there is a reflection on the surface. The drawing is charcoal and sanguine pastel on paper, and I was pleased with my rendering of the musculature. I found it was important to imagine the anatomy beneath the surface as I drew and make sure that it seemed structurally connected. For example, the two dark shadow depressions beneath the shoulder blades are in a straight (but slanted) line, equidistant from the spine. They were not drawn independently as if they had no relationship to each other. One viewer at the show commented that the model's flesh seems to droop a bit on his sides. Indeed it does. He was an older man, quite fit, and rendered faithfully.
